Cold Calling Insights from The BDR Talks
In case you missed our last event, we saved some of the insights for you 😉
Before the call:
Arguably the most important part of a cold call—warm up your prospect as much as possible; send an email, invite to an event, reference a colleague…
Research and find the why behind your outreach; specific pain points, role specific, or company wide objectives you can help solve.
Gas yourself up 🔥
During the call:
Let them talk and actually listen instead of thinking about what you will say next
Try different openers:
Let their guard down and then introduce yourself: “Spoke with your colleague Ben who referred me to you. This is Matt by the way, from CompanyX”
State that it’s a cold call: “Tbh, this is a cold call, do you have 30 sec?”
Objection handling:
“No budget”
“I’m not here to talk about the budget; it’s our job to justify it.”
“Let’s talk in X months”
“Can I ask why?”
“Send me an email”
“What would you like to see in that email?”
“I’m happy with my current tool”:
Flatter the competitor and mention how things have changed since then.
In conclusion: challenge your prospects, no one is waiting for you to cold call them—always ask why at least twice to dig deeper and sometimes, stepping away from the laptop can do you good ❤️
